My Media Use Pt. 2

8 a.m. – On my day off I wake up at 8 a.m. ready to jumpstart my day. I first check Facebook as to me that is were I see if any news is being reported. I follow a few sports pages so the algorithm on my timeline mainly consist of content that is of sports. I see some promoted content of Baseball trading cards as I am a trading card collector.

9 a.m. – I then put on the TV to watch ESPN. While watching TV my TV displays an option to view all sporting matches coming up. I believe the TV does this because it knows I am watching a sports channel. It also does this to get me to put reminders on any game I would want to watch in the future.

10 a.m. – For a few hours I hop on my Nintendo Switch for a bit to play some games. I first played Mario Kart as this is my favorite game. I was able to make great success and complete missions that led to getting trophies. Due to how I have my settings, anytime I am able to get trophies playing the game it automatically puts the updates on the leaderboard in which my friends can see whenever they are playing as well.

12 p.m. – I head to the gym to get a great workout. During my workout I always play music while working out. Of how my algorithm is on my music app, when I put a mix of songs I listen to on shuffle mode it tends to only play the songs I listen to the most. Promoted content like the artist’s concerts (especially some in my area) are always recommended from the app to me while listening.

2 p.m. – I check YouTube to see if there are any videos that I would be interested of. I find an interesting documentary of the Titanic and decide to watch it. There are ads throughout the video which some I noticed are sports ads in which could relate to how much sports videos I watch on YouTube.

4 p.m. – I check TikTok to see what is new. For me I see an awesome Lionel Messi Highlight video in which I gave it a like. After liking one, 3 different highlight videos had popped up. I can see just how easy it is to have an algorithm of what you like by just liking one video.

5 p.m. – I was able to read some articles in the local news. I like to see what is going on around the area especially if there are any fun events around. While reading the articles, there were promoted ads of making sure to vote in the presidential election and local elections.

6 p.m. – I check the app MyFitnessPal to make sure I was able to track all the food I was able to eat for the day by providing the food nutrient details like calories, carbohydrates, and more. Putting this type of information and any other information like wanting any goal to be reach gives great recommendation from the app itself. For example, it gives out great recommendation of recipes of food to make and much more.

7 p.m. – I decide to put on Netflix hoping for the recommendations to be on point on what I want to watch. All the series and movies I watch on Netflix contribute a big part into having the recommendations be on good point. This for me is great information that it gives to Netflix in which they recommend more like the series and movies I’ve been watching.

The themes I noticed in my use of media is that in the beginning and end of the day I tend to watch something to get my mind either ready to start the day in the morning or to get my mind to calm down during the night. In my opinion, I am not really reconsidering how I interact with media because most media I use tend to play to my interest. Sports is a big interest of mine and almost all media I use know that and recommend great sports games. There are some ways I could reconsider but in all for right now I don’t mind the recommendation of content with majority being sports related.
