Culture can be interpreted in many different ways in all walks of life as it has many interesting things to show. It’s one of the few things in life where only those who are from their respective culture can only understand and teach to those who are quite foreign to it. To help better understand some cultures are different resources that could better explain and show elements of just what is going on during that time of the culture as culture just like anything else does keep the same basic concepts instore however also updates and evolves over time. The culture that is going to be explained for this is of Mexican American culture and to explain a bit of the culture is the resource of the 1993 film “Blood In Blood Out“. This film is easily recognizable in the Mexican American culture as many could relate to many of the different situations that were portrayed in the film. Just to give a summary of the film, the film gives insight on 3 young Mexican Americans who grow up in East Los Angeles during the 70s and 80s. Just like in real life as East Los Angeles during those times were gang infested the film perfectly illustrates this as the 3 characters join a local street gang which takes a wild turn as 2 of them get caught by the police and are now forced to make a decision for their future. 1 of them decides to join the military and decides to change his life for the better as he leaves the gang life however the other who gets caught continues to live the gang life. The 3rd last character stays away from trouble but still kind of lives the gang life just not as much but gets addicted to drugs throughout the movie. Essentially to say the problems that each character faces from that time continues to serve currently culturally as gangs are still alive and active while drugs still continue to be used by many. Even though the negatives of the characters are being shown the positives can still be found as for the 1st character who decided to change his ways for the better of his future is a way shown by the movie makers that there is positives out there can be made and help better the future of people stuck in that lifestyle.
I believe the imagined alternative of the positive way of being able to escape a tough reality that is sometimes influenced by the older generation and how the culture kind of displays which in this case is participating in the gang life can require a bit more systematic change. Systematic there can possibly be a bit more activities to get the younger generation interested in such as sports tournaments.
I believe that there are elements of the alternative seen in current conditions as one example is seen the rise of video games. Playing video games can help connect those who love to play video games and can also play multiplayer video games with other friends as well. However just like how the film shows joining the military can also help as well as it gives great benefits for life in the future.
